On November 28th, 2012, NRG Energy Inc. (Princeton, New Jersey, U.S.) announced that it has completed its "The Sun Lights the Way" project in the Boucan Carré region of Haiti. Under the program, NRG Energy, through collaboration with the Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF), installed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at 20 schools, a fish farm and a drip irrigation system supporting agricultural production throughout Haiti's Central Plateau region. Orix to develop 89.2 MW of PV in across Japan

On November 27th, 2012, Orix Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) announced plans to develop up to 89.2 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants at 18 sites in Japan. This includes the launch of a project with Kyudenko Corporation (Fukuoka, Japan) to build an 8.6 MW PV project on a former airfield on the Japanese island of Kyushu. The other plants will be located on land leased form companies, local governments and other landowners across Japan. Read more

centrotherm photovoltaics creditors approve restructuring roadmap, self-administration

On November 29th, 2012 centrotherm photovoltaics AG (Blaubeuren, Germany) revealed that a meeting of its creditors has confirmed the company's restructuring roadmap, including unanimously approving the company's self-administration. Insolvency Administrator Dr. Martin Hörmann has also agreed with the company's recommendations. Additionally, a temporary committee of creditors has been made permanent, with the election of an additional member. Read more

UpSolar PV modules pass PID test

On November 28th, 2012, Upsolar (Shanghai, China) announced its solar photovoltaic (PV) modules have passed potential induced degradation (PID) test conducted by the Institute of Industrial Certification for Mechanics (ICIM). The modules were PID tested under the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62804 Ed. 1.0 specifications. Over a period of 96 hours, modules were subjected to 85% atmospheric humidity, temperatures exceeding 60°C and applied voltage of 1,000 V. Read more

Pennsylvania utilities purchase 14,500 solar credits

On November 27th, 2012, Brattle Group (Washington, U.S.) announced that it has purchased solar photovoltaic alternative energy credits for Metropolitan Edison Co., Pennsylvania Electric Co. and Pennsylvania Power Co. Through a competitive bidding process conducted by economists at Brattle Group, the companies have solicited contracts for 14,500 solar photovoltaic alternative energy credits (SPAECs) annually over a 10-year period. India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released guidelines for installing solar water heating systems on high-rise and multi-story buildings. The new guidelines include a rule of thumb for calculating the requirement of hot water at roughly 20 liters per person per day for bathing and 30 liters per person for bathing and washing, as well as 100 liters per two-bedroom apartment and 200 liters per three-bedroom apartment. SunEdison LLC (Beltsville, Maryland, U.S.) has closed on USD 314 million in financing for two solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling USD 58 MW-AC in South Africa. SunEdison has secured both debt and equity financing for the 30 MW-AC Witkop Solar Park and the 28 MW-AC Soutpan Solar Park, both in Limpopo Province. The company plans begin construction of both plants in January 2013, and to commission the Soutpan PV plant in January 2014 and the Witkop plant in April 2014. Read more
