Electrovaya unveils lithium-ion storage system for home usage with PV systems

On November 14th, 2012, Electrovaya Inc. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) announced that it has launched its lithium-ion energy storage system for home usage. The battery stores power from the grid or from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for later household use. For consumers subject to time-of-use charges, the EnergyBlock can be used to store off-peak power to be used later during peak times, lowering the amount of peak-rate costs for the user, the company states. University of Arkansas develops novel thermal storage system for concentrating solar power plants

Engineering researchers at the University of Arkansas have developed a thermal energy storage system that will work as a viable alternative to current methods used for storing energy collected from solar thermal collectors. Incorporating the researchers' design into the operation of a concentrating solar power (CSP) plant will dramatically increase annual energy production while significantly decreasing production costs, the University notes.
