PSEG Solar Source (Newark, New Jersey, U.S.), Salt River Project (SRP, Tempe, Arizona, U.S.) and Juwi Solar Inc. (Boulder, Colorado, U.S.) have held a dedication ceremony for the 19 MW-AC PSEG Queen Creek Solar Farm in the U.S. state of Arizona. The plant comprises roughly 90,000 crystalline silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, mounted on single-axis trackers. The plant features 48 400 kW Power-One inverters, with each inverter comprising six extractable 67 kW modules with a customized configuration for maximum energy harvest. Read more

BLM recommends reduction in size of Desert Harvest PV plant to 135 MW

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the Desert Harvest solar photovoltaic (PV) project proposed in Riverside County, Southern California. In the EIS, the BLM recommends that the project be reduced from 1,208 acres of public land to 1,044 acres, with a corresponding reduction in output from 150 megawatt (MW) to 135 MW, in order to avoid impacts to rare plant species. EDF Renewable Energy (San Diego, California, U.S.) is developing the plant. Read more

Array Technologies to supply single-axis trackers for 268 MW-DC PV project in Southern California

(Albuquerque, New Mexico, U.S.) has been selected to supply its DuraTrack single-axis trackers for a 268 MW-DC solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Southern California's Imperial Valley. The plant will utilize First Solar cadmium telluride thin-film PV modules, and Array Technologies notes that the design of its trackers provides a material-efficient tracking design for mounting these frameless modules. Italian PV supplies more than 6% of electricity produced in October 2012

Italian grid operator Terna SpA (Rome, Italy) has released electricity system information for October 2012, reporting that photovoltaic (PV) plants produced more than 6% of the nation's electricity generation at 1.36 GWh. This represents a 17% increase in production over October 2011. PV was the third largest source of electricity, following thermoelectric (fossil fuel and nuclear) generation at 72% and hydroelectric generation at 16%. Read more
