IMS Research: CPV installations to reach 1.2 GW by 2016

IMS Research (Wellingborough, U.K.) has released a new report which predicts that concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) installations will reach almost 1.2 GW by 2016, supported by a 16% annual reduction in the cost of systems. "The World Market for Concentrated PV (CPV) - 2012" also notes that leading CPV producers are making technological advances that will help make CPV more attractive in a number of markets. Read more

Conduit Capital Partners, CAF development bank acquire 81% stake in 40 MW PV projects in Peru

On November 12th, 2012, Conduit Capital Partners LLC (New York, U.S.) and CAF, a development bank of Latin America have together acquired 81% stake in two 40 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in southern Peru. The companies made investment in the Tacna and Panamericana solar projects. The Tacna project has entered into operation, while construction continues on the Panamericana project, the partners announced. Read more

National Group releases qualified bidders for Kerala rooftop PV program; 4,000 applications received

On November 3rd, 2012, Natural Group, an India focused renewable energy advisory and management organization, has released a list of qualified bidders for the 10,000 rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) power systems (off-grid) program in the Indian federal state Kerala. The top five bidders include: Power One Micro Systems Ltd.; Chemtrols Solar Pvt Ltd.; Millenium Synergy Pvt. Ltd.; Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd.; Adithya Solar Energy Systems. Read more

Gehrlicher to commission 8.75 MW PV plant in Romania

Gehrlicher Solar AG (Neustadt B. Coburg, Germany) has announced that it will complete and commission an 8.75 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Romania by November 15th, 2012. The company is building the plant in Isaccea (Romania) for investor and operator Ra Ra Parc SRL (Romania). The Isaccea plant will comprise over 35,000 JA Solar crystalline silicon PV modules, with nine SMA inverters. Read more

EDF commissions 115 MW Toul-Rosières PV plant in France

On November 13th, 2012 EDF Energies Nouvelles (La Défense, France) announced the commissioning of a 115 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant on a former military airbase in the Lorraine region of France. The Toul-Rosières PV plant utilizes First Solar's cadmium telluride technology, with roughly 1.4 million thin film PV modules deployed. The site required an extensive remediation, including asbestos removal and the demolition of 280 buildings. Read more

Trina also estimates an overall gross margin between 0% and 1.5%, compared to its previous guidance of "middle-single digits". Manz Solar revenues, margins collapse

Manz AG (Reutlingen, Germany) has published financial results for the first nine months of 2012, reporting a 74% decline in revenues in its Solar business unit to EUR 14.9 million (USD 18.9 million), with an operating loss of EUR 17.7 million (USD 22.5 million). Manz' Solar business has fallen to 11% of company revenues. The full company fared better during the period, with revenues across all three divisions declining only 23% to EUR 148 million, an operating margin of -2.4% and a net loss of EUR 7.34 million (USD 9.33 million).
