Siliken to supply Japan Railway Group with PV modules

Japan Railway Group, a state-owned company, has chosen Siliken (Paterna, Spain) as its solar photovoltaic (PV) panel supplier for the first installation carried out by the Group. Siliken will provide its PV modules to Kyushu Railway, one of the new companies within the Japan Railway Group. The project starts with the construction of a PV solar park with a generating capacity of 2 MW, which Siliken will supply in addition to two other international providers of solar PV solutions. Report: EBRD makes first investment in Ukraine?s solar industry

According to a report from Bloomberg, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a ?5.7 million financial package for a solar plant in Ukraine. This will be the EBRD?s first solar project in the country and will see the organisation provide a ?4.1 million eight year loan in order to develop aMW solar plant in the Vinnytsya region to Rengy Development. As stated by Narek Harutyunyan, director of Rengy Development, the total cost of the solar project is ?10 million. Read more

Sunpreme, SMA inverters help power two rooftop solar installations in California

Sunpreme announced that it had completed its installation of rooftop solar projects for two dental clinics in Northern California?s east bay. The solar systems, built for the Shoker Clinic, are supposed to provide enough electricity to offset around 90% of the clinic?s annual power needs. The installations feature 47kW of Sunpreme solar panels and SMA SunnyBoy inverters, which will generate almost 65,209kWh of electricity every year. Read more

Thuringia inaugurates its largest solar plant in Ronneburg

Solar renewable energy credit prices remain depressed in India

Prices for solar renewable energy credits (SRECs) have remained the roughly the same in September 2012, with demand outstripping supply as more solar projects are commissioned, according to an analysis by ReConnect Energy Solutions. The market clearing price for SRECs was INR 12,500 (USD 241) on the India Energy Exchange (IEX) and INR 12,900 (USD 249) on the Power Exchange India (PXIL) during the month. In September 2012, 1,160 SRECs were sold, a tripling of market volume over the 379 sold in August 2012. Read more

Report: Terra Firma, CDB plan multi-billion dollar fund for investment in renewable energy

A report from Reuters has found that private equity firm Terra Firma is supposedly partnering with China Development Bank for a multi-billion dollar fund, which will go towards investments in renewable energy. Although Terra Firma declined to comment to Reuters, a source told the news outlet that the companies are expecting to start raising between US$3 and US$5 billion in the next few months. Read more

Chilean Senate approves 20% by 2020 renewable energy goal

A proposal to increase the share of "non-conventional" renewable energy in the Chile's electricity generation mix to 20% by 2020 has unanimously passed the Chilean Senate and was presented to the Committee on Mines and Energy on October 3rd, 2012. An agreement has already been reached in the Committee on Mining and Energy in the nation's House of Representatives, and the legislation will now be processed.
