Detroit Edison issues request for proposals to buy large PV installations

On September 28th, 2012, Detroit Edison (Detroit, Michigan, U.S.), a subsidiary of DTE Energy, announced that it has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to purchase one or more solar photovoltaic (PV) installation as part of its utility-owned SolarCurrents program. The RFP will be conducted in two steps. The first will identify potential sites and the second will seek design and pricing information for the most desirable sites. Read more

Solar Frontier delivers first 80 MW of PV modules for world's largest CIS PV plant

Solar Frontier K.K. (Tokyo, Japan) has delivered 80 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules for the Catalina Solar Plant in Southern California. The plant in Kern County will be the world's largest copper indium gallium diselenide (CIS or CIGS) PV plant when complete. EDF Renewable Energy (San Diego, California, U.S.) will develop, build and own the Catalina Solar Plant, which will have a capacity of 143 MW when complete. The companies expect to commission the first 50 MW phase of the plant by the end of 2012, and to complete the entire plant by June 2013. Read more

Canadian Solar delivers modules for 26 MW PV plant in Puerto Rico

Canadian Solar Inc. (Guelph, Canada) has delivered 26 MW of its CS6-P crystalline silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to TSK Solar (Gijón, Spain) for installation in a new PV plant on the U.S. island territory of Puerto Rico. TSK will serve as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the San Fermin PV plant, which will be co-developed by Uriel Renewables Inc. (Mequon, WI) and Coqui Power LLC. The plant is located in the region of Loiza, and has been designed to withstand the hurricanes and flooding which affect the region. Read more

PV in Germany: Parabel AG commissions first construction phase of the Krempendorf Solar Park at 24.2 MW

On September 28th, 2012 Parabel AG (Berlin, Germany) announced the commissioning of the first construction phase of the Krempendorf Solar Park with a capacity of 24.2 MW after just four weeks of construction. The solar photovoltaic (PV) plant is targeted a capacity of 50 MW. Just as with the 40.5 MW Jännersdorf Park that was opened seven weeks ago, the first part of the ground-mounted installation was built on an approximately 33-hectare site that forms part of the former Jännersdorf military training area in the rural district of Prignitz (Brandenburg, Germany). Solarbuzz (Santa Clara, Calif.) forecasts average industry-wide polysilicon prices for photovoltaic (PV) applications to drop 52% in 2012, while plant utilization is expected to decline from 77% in 2011 to 63%.
