Applied Materials to provide solar and LED lighting systems to 1,000 households in India

On September 21st, 2011 Applied Materials Inc. (Santa Clara, California, U.S.) announced a program to provide access to solar photovoltaic (PV) and LED lighting systems for 1,000 households and ten schools in villages in India at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting in New York City. Additionally, the program will expand access to household finance for home solar systems, as well as providing training for entrepreneurs from Africa and Central America to replicate the model in other regions. Dow Solar joins DOE's Solar Decathlon 2011 as sponsor

On September 20th, 2011, Dow Chemical Co. (Midland, Mich.) announced that Dow Solar will participate at the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 as a sponsor of several key events and two student teams. Report: Competitive electricity purchases to reach to USD 56 billion by 2020

On September 20th, 2011, Pike Research (Boulder, Colo.) reported that competitive electricity purchases will nearly double from USD 29.4 billion in 2009 to USD 55.9 billion by 2020. The Pike Research's report, "Corporate and Institutional Procurement of Electricity", examines the critical role that electricity plays in commercial and industrial operations, explores the motivations for seeking non-utility and green power among a variety of business types, and identifies existing policies that promote competition - as well as barriers that may inhibit further access to competitively priced power.
