Italy?s has now leapfrogged Germany as the world?s largest PV market after becoming the first country to install 10GW of capacity, according to the Italian network agency, GSE. In spite of the confusion surrounding the cuts to its feed-in tariff earlier in the year, Italy has still managed to connect 6.5MW to the grid in 2011 ? three times the amount installed in Germany. According to a new report from IMS Research the market for microinverters and power optimizers has grown 500% in 2010 and is expected to continue to more than double on average every year to 2015, while reaching a value of US$1.3 billion. However, pricing is said to be an ongoing issue, despite expected economies of scale and greater competition, the market research firm expects microinverter average prices be close to 50% higher than those of conventional inverters by 2015, limiting their penetration from 1% in 2012 to only 6% of the market in 2015. On September 8th, 2011, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) sent a letter to U.S. President Barack Obama urging his administration to start an investigation into unfair trade practices by China in the export of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to the United States. Senator Wyden, chair of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee's Subcommittee on Trade, proposes among possible remedies that the U.S. Department of Commerce begin an anti-dumping investigation, the imposition of temporary tariffs, or litigation through the World Trade Organization. On September 11th, 2011, the Israeli Ministry of Interior approved a plan for an 8 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant adjacent to the Bedouin community of Tarabin in Israel's Negev Desert. The plant will be a joint project between the Tarabin tribe and Arava Power Company Ltd. (Ktura, Israel).
