DOE chooses Solectria to develop integrated smart-grid ready PV inverters

Sunday, 9.11.2011 - 19:28 (Solarserver)

On September 6th, 2011, Solectria Renewables LLC (Lawrence, Massachusetts, U.S.) announced that it has been awarded a USD 2.1 million contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to develop integrated smart-grid ready solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters with utility communications. This contract is part of a DOE project to better integrate distributed PV generation into electricity grids through the agency's SunShot Initiative. Other partners in the program include the Electric Power Research Institute Inc. (Palo Alto, California, U.S.), Detroit Edison Company (Detroit, Michigan, U.S.), National Grid plc (London, U.K.) and Xcel Energy Inc. (Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.). Read more

Arizona State University achieves 10 MW of solar PV generating capacity

Sunday, 9.11.2011 - 19:28 (Solarserver)

On September 6th, 2011, Arizona State University announced that it became the only higher education institution in the United States to exceed 10 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) generation capacity. This 10 MW solar capacity represents roughly 20% of the university's peak load and reduces its carbon footprint between 5 to 10%. The newly-installed 700-panel, 168- kW, ground-mount photovoltaic installation on ASU's Tempe campus helped the university achieve 10 MW of solar-generating capacity. Read more
