PV Manufacturing Equipment: Centrotherm to create new subsidiary for PV cell and module business

Centrotherm Photovoltaics AG (Blaubeuren, Germany) has announced that it will create Centrotherm Cell & Module GmbH to accommodate its Solar Cell & Module business segment. As of September 1st, 2011, the new subsidiary will take over the activities of the segment, as well as its assets, processes and staff. The company has appointed Dr. Josef Haase as CEO and Olaf Demuth as Chief Financial Officer. Read more

IMS Research: PV Inverter prices, revenues continue to fall

Solar PV inverter suppliers continued to suffer in Q2?11 with industry revenues falling by 1.3% year-on-year, following sharp price declines, according to IMS Research?s latest quarterly report. However it was not all bad news in Q2 IMS Research (Wellingborough, U.K.) emphasizes Inverter shipments in fact grew sharply by more than 40% versus Q1 indicating that excess inventory is no longer blighting the industry and that demand may be more robust downstream in 2H?11. SCHOTT creates 20.2% efficient screen-printed monocrystalline PV cell

On August 24th, 2011, SCHOTT Solar AG (Mainz, Germany) announced that it has fabricated a 20.2% efficient monocrystalline screen-printed solar photovoltaic (PV) cell, as confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE (Freiburg, Germany). The company created the 4.92 watt cell using an industrial size 156 mm x 156 mm wafer. SCHOTT notes that this is the first time that a PV cell of this size has achieved this efficiency. Read more

PV Manufacturing: Solexel signs MOU to build PV cell factory in Malaysia

On August 23rd, 2011, Solexel Inc. (Milpitas, California, U.S.) and Senai Hi-Tech Park signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of a solar photovoltaic (PV) cell manufacturing facility in Senai Hi-Tech Park, in the Iskandar region of Malaysia. Construction on the first phase of the plant, which will have an annual production capacity of 200 MW, is scheduled to begin in 2012. This phase will represent an investment of USD 275 million. Schott Solar claims 20.2% efficiency on monocrystalline cell

Schott Solar advised that it had achieved 20.2% efficiency on its monocrystalline screen-printed solar PV cell; a feat that was confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). The 4.92W cell uses an industrial sized 156mm x 156mm wafer, which led Schott to maintain that this is the first PV cell of its size to reach this efficiency. Read more

Centrosolar-powered Italian PV systems eligible for higher FiT
