PV production technology: Heraeus to build facility in Singapore to increase metallization paste capacity for crystalline solar cells

The Heraeus Photovoltaic Business Unit (West Conshohocken, Pa.) completed construction in Singapore of a new facility for the production of silver metallization paste used in crystalline solar photovoltaic (PV) cell applications. Satcon revises Q2 revenue downwards; plans 15% staff reduction

Satcon Technology has released preliminary unaudited results for revenue and gross margin for the second quarter of 2011, which show that the company has revised its gross margin for the quarter downwards from 17?20% to within the 7?11% range. Revenue for the quarter, previously forecasted at between US$50 and US$60 million, now looks set to come in at between US$45 and US$47 million. Read more

Researchers at Universities of Cambridge, Sheffield publish research on polymer PV cell manufacturing

On July 4th, 2011, researchers at the Universities of Sheffield (Sheffield, U.K.) and Cambridge (Cambridge, U.K.) announced new research on manufacturing techniques for thin film polymer solar photovoltaic (PV) cells. The scientists state that they can create efficient PV cell structures using simple, low-cost manufacturing methods to deposit flexible layers of material over large areas. The team's research was first published in the journal Advanced Energy Materials. Read more

IMS Research predicts dip in global PV inverter market in 2011; recovery to US$10 billion by 2015

The boom in the global PV inverter market seen in 2010 looks set to be followed by a dip to below US$6 billion in 2011 ? a fall of more than 10% ? according to IMS Research?s recently-published report, ?The World Market for PV Inverters?. Ash Sharma, IMS Research?s senior research director for PV, commented that although installations will grow by approximately 16% this year, oversupply in the inverter market will result in a fall in inverter shipments. While the figures are by no means low, 2010?s massive boost in shipments is proving a tough act to follow. Read more

Solarbuzz report finds US nonresidential PV project pipeline has surpassed 17GW

Solarbuzz?s July edition of the United States Deal Tracker has found that US nonresidential PV projects have surpassed 17GW with the 601 projects ranging in size from 50kW to 500MW that will be installed between the second half of 2011 through 2015. Solarbuzz counters that as feed-in-tariffs in Europe have been cut, the PV project pipeline in the US has become of the most promising for growth opportunities in the world. Read more

LADWP looks to reinstate its Solar Incentive Program and introduce a new FiT program

After being on a temporary hiatus since April 8, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power?s (LADWP) Solar Incentive Program (SIP) is looking to make a comeback as early as this September. LADWP has introduced a proposal to reinstate the SIP program, which will feature double the funding levels for the next three years with incentive levels falling in line with the California Solar Initiative and market pricing in general. UK?s largest council initiative kicks off in Colchester

Polysilicon production equipment and technology: GT Solar announces new USD 81.7 million orders

Solar Europa signs USD 1.9 billion deal to put PV plants on council homes in the U.K.

(Barnsley, U.K.) announced that it has signed a GBP 1.2 billion (USD 1.9 billion) agreement with AD-ECO (Sidcup, England) to put solar plants on the roofs of the homes of 200,000 council and housing association tenants across the United Kingdom. AD-ECO will supply funding for the project.
