MPrime gains MCS accreditation for its crystalline photovoltaic module

MPrime, Martifer Solar’s photovoltaic distribution branch, has received accreditation under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme for its crystalline photovoltaic (PV) module. Awarded by the British Standards Institution (BSI) the Kitemark license means the company’s product is now eligible under the UK’s feed-in tariff scheme. Read more

On July 26th, 2011, Q-Cells SE (Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany) announced the completion of the sale of the Finsterwalde II & III solar photovoltaic (PV) plants near Finsterwalde, Germany to Blue Forrest Solar Holding. The two plants have a combined capacity of 40 MW, and combined with the Finsterwalde 1 PV plant comprise an 82 MW PV project. Read more

Parabel begins work on 6 MW of rooftop PV plants in Germany

On July 26th, 2011, Parabel AG (Berlin, Germany) announced that it has begun work on the first of 11 rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) plants totaling 6 MW in Brandenburg and Saxony, Germany. Parabel's concept involves the refurbishment of asbestos-containing roofs belonging to former agricultural production cooperatives, including re-cladding with metal sheet roofing and the installation of PV plants. Satcon to supply inverters for 40 MW of Indian PV plants

On July 26th, 2011, Satcon Technology Corporation (Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.) announced that Wipro EcoEnergy (Bangalore, India) will use Satcon PowerGate Plus 500 kW inverters for 40 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) plants that it is developing in India. Satcon notes that this project represents the largest private development of PV plants in India to date. Read more

US Department of Veterans Affairs grants US$56.7M for solar installations on five VA hospitals

The US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) revealed that it had awarded US$56.7 million in contracts for the construction of solar PV systems at five VA hospitals across the US. The installations are set to be constructed by the summer of 2012 at VA medical centers in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Temple and Amarillo, Texas and Loma Linda and West Los Angeles, California. Constellation Energy celebrates 4.4MW solar system installation at Denver International Airport

Yingli Green Energy provides PV modules for 10MW solar plant in Greece

The recently completed 10MW utility-scale solar project in Larissa, Greece, which is being hailed as the largest solar plant in the country, is sporting Yingli Green Energy Holding PV modules. The project was developed by Selected Energy, a subsidiary of Selected Textiles, and constructed by Biosar Energy. UK solar scramble continues as subsidies draw to an end

Octopus Investments has successfully funded the installation of 11 large-scale solar projects throughout the UK ahead of the August 1 fast-track feed-in tariff deadline. JT Hawkes switches on almost 23,000 solar panels in Oxfordshire

First Solar reaches new world record CdTe cell efficiency of 17.3%

(Tempe, Arizona, U.S.) announced that it has reached 17.3% conversion efficiency with a test cadmium telluride (CdTe) solar photovoltaic (PV) cell, as confirmed by National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL, Golden, Colorado, U.S.). This is a new world record efficiency for cadmium telluride, surpassing the previous record of 16.7% set in 2001. Read more

Moser Baer Solar extends PV modules mechanical warranty to 10 years
