Munich Re plans 2.5 MW SunPower PV system on a carport structure in New Jersey

Munich Reinsurance America (Munich Re) and SunPower Corp. on June 16th, 2011 announced that SunPower will design and build a 2.5-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) power system at Munich Re?s Plainsboro, N.J. facility. SunPower will install its high-efficiency solar panels on a carport structure that will provide shade for the facility?s parking lot while reducing annual electricity costs by almost $500,000. Photovoltaics top the feed-in tariff charts during year one

According to the latest Ofgem figures photovoltaics has dominated the feed-in tariff installations recorded to date in the UK. The recent ups and downs in the solar industry seem to have had little effect on the figures, with over 96% of the projects registered between January 1 and 31 March belonging to the PV category. Spire to provide PV module production line to REIL in Jaipur, India

Spire Corporation (Bedford, Mass.), a global solar company providing turn-key production lines to manufacture photovoltaic (PV) modules on June 20th, 2011 announced that it has received a contract for a 12 megawatt (MW) PV semi-automated module manufacturing line from Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Ltd. Phono Solar modules receive MCS accreditation

Module manufacturer Phono Solar has received microgeneration certification scheme (MCS) accreditation for its 195W and 200W panels. The certificate is compulsory in order for solar products to be eligible for Government’s feed-in tariff payments, and confirms that the modules comply with or surpass the photovoltaic module standards applicable in the UK. NJR Clean Energy Ventures (Wall, N.J.), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources on June 20th, 2011 announced that it will invest up to USD 23.7 million to develop, own and operate a 4.7 megawatt, ground-mount solar photovoltaic (PV) system in Vineland, NJ. The Australian Government has selected the AREVA Solar (Mountain View, Calif.), CS Energy and Wind Prospect CWP consortium's "Solar Dawn" as the preferred solar thermal power project in Round 1 of the Australian Government's Solar Flagships Program. Solar Dawn is a proposed 250 megawatt (MW) solar thermal gas hybrid power plant and will be the largest plant of its kind in the world when completed. The Australian Commonwealth and Queensland Governments also announced their commitment to contribute USD 464 million and USD 75 million, respectively, to the project. Read more

EDF Energies Nouvelles signs power purchase agreement for solar PV project in the U.S.

enXco, EDF Energies Nouvelles U.S. subsidiary, announced it has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) for a 130 megawatt DC solar photovoltaic (PV) facility in California (equivalent to 110 MWp AC). Located in Kern County, California, the Catalina solar project will be developed, built and owned by enXco while SDG&E will buy the power generated under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The optimized 150 megawatt (MW) alternating current (AC) PV generation project is sponsored by Sempra Generation and will be located in Maricopa County, Arizona, approximately 45 miles west of Phoenix.
