RASIRC Steamers used by Fraunhofer ISE for high-efficiency PV cell production

On May 26th, 2011, RASIRC (San Diego, California, U.S.) announced that its RASIRC Steamers were found by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) to create 20.2% efficient back-contact silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) cells. Fraunhofer used the steamers to deliver ultra-pure water vapor for both its metal wrap through (MWT) and passivated emitter and rear cell (PERC) solar cell manufacturing processes. Samsung Electronics Company, Ltd. (Seoul, South Korea) has announced that it will sell its recently developed solar photovoltaic (PV) cell business to Samsung SDI Company Ltd. (Suwon, South Korea) for USD 148 million. Samsung SDI will take over the PV cell business on July 1st, 2011. Samsung Electronics states that the purpose of the transaction is to manage the company's resources more efficiently and maintain focus on its key businesses. As the possible acquisition of Roth & Rau by Meyer Burger Technology continues, Jürgen Gutekunst of Gutekunst Holding and owner and manager of Rena bought a 15.06% share of Roth & Rau voting rights. Roth & Rau advised that upon the information its management board had received, the acquisition by Gutekunst stemmed from the business relationship he has participated in with the company in the development and marking of production technologies for crystalline and silicon solar cells. On May 27th, 2011, the Council of the European Union revised and clarified its Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS), maintaining an exception for solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. This ruling means that cadmium telluride PV modules, such as those produced by First Solar Inc. (Tempe, Arizona, U.S.), can continue to be sold in the European Union. On May 26th, 2011, Ernst & Young released the latest edition of its global "Renewable Energy Country Attractiveness Indices", which states that China remains by far the most promising location to pursue future renewable energy business opportunities. The report places the United States in second place and India in third, as well as stating that nations around the world are increasingly broadening the scope of their renewable energy portfolios amid "challenging market conditions". A dramatic u-turn by German Chancellor, Angela Merkel was officially proclaimed earlier today with the announcement that all nuclear plants in the country would be shutdown permanently by 2021. Initially, eight of Germany?s oldest nuclear plants will shutdown immediately and the remaining plants phased-out of the next ten-years but three plants could remain operation until 2022 in case the addition of replacement new energy sources, primarily renewable have not been completed. On May 24th, 2011, the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley, California, U.S.) announced the release of a report which states that California is capable of reaching its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.
