Sovello taps Celestica for PV module assembly

?String Ribbon? technology co-user, Sovello is to use manufacturing outsourcing firm, Celestica to assemble solar modules in Ontario, Canada to meet local content rules for PV installations. Allocated capacity was said to be 167MW, almost the same capacity (180MW) Sovello has at its three plants in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. Read more

SEMA announces their first technical conference and exhibition

The first technical conference and exhibition by the Solar Engineering & Manufacturing Association (SEMA) is scheduled to take place May 24 through 26 at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose, California. In addition to a technical conference and exhibition, the event will feature training courses for PV manufacturing technology and troubleshooting manufacturing issues. AEG Power Solutions buys Spanish solar installation specialist OpciónDos

AEG Power Solutions has acquired OpciónDos, a Madrid-based company focused on the integration of PV technologies into a built-in environment. OpciónDos won the Best PV Installation award for the Province of Madrid in 2008 for their La Vaguada solar installation and was also responsible for the Ikea solar project in La Coruña. OpciónDos will be a member of AEG Power Solutions strategic business unit. Read more

Magnolia Solar names research veteran Thomas Surek to its technical advisory board

Dr. Thomas Surek is known as a pioneer of terrestrial PV research who started his 37-year career with his growth of shaped silicon crystals at Harvard University in 1973. Recently, Surek has been appointed to Magnolia Solar?s technical advisory board (TAB) where he will be able to help the company further its promotion of PV systems as an alternative energy source. His experience in the field includes research at Mobil Tyco Solar Energy and a contributor to the large-scale commercialization of the edge-defined film-fed growth (EFG) process through his shaped crystal growth of silicon.
