centrotherm looks to expand its Blaubeuren manufacturing site to bolster production capacity

In direct response to its high order volumes, centrotherm photovoltaics is investing in an expansion of its Blaubeuren, Germany headquarters. The current 247,569 square foot facility?s area will be increased to comprise of 333,681 square feet with a double-digit million euro price tag. Production at Blaubeuren includes the manufacturing of tube furnaces for phosphorous diffusion and batch-type systems for anti-reflective coating of solar cells. Read more


Scientex, Mitsui Chemicals Tohcello sign joint venture deal to manufacture solar EVA material

Malaysian conglomerate Scientex and Japanese materials supplier Mitsui Chemicals Tohcello (MCTI) have signed a joint-venture agreement to manufacture and distribute ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) encapsulating materials for PV modules and other applications. A new company will be formed, MCTI Scientex Solar, in which each party holds a 50% equity interest. Read more

U.K. FiT review hits large-scale PV projects

The U.K. Government has significantly cut subsidies for large-scale solar installations as part of its comprehensive review of the feed-in tariff (FiT) scheme, reports Solar Power Portal. Plants with a capacity between 50kW and 5MW will be effected by the reductions, with the largest seeing their subsidies cut by as much as 70%. Read more

GEMCO wins contract to install 8MW of MicroFIT PV systems in Ontario

As part of the Fov?re Glenbarra Energy Fund IV, a partnership fund between Fov?re Investments and Glenbarra Energy Management (GEMCO) for the advancement of solar energy projects in Ontario, GEMCO will install up to 8MW, or 800, ground-mounted MicroFIT PV solar systems in Southern Ontario. The fund has bought the rights to lease the land where the solar projects will be constructed and will provide financing for the installations. Read more

Comtec Solar posts record revenue and wafer shipments in 2010

Monocrystalline solar wafer manufacturer Comtec Solar System Group has finalized and released their financial results for the full 2010 year posting record revenue and wafer shipment totals for the year. The company cites high demand and a better pricing environment led to their improved financial results. Revenue for 2010 was US$155.15 million (RMB1.02 billion), compared to 2009?s US$77.08 million (RMB506.8 million).  Comtec?s total shipments, including sales and processing services, were 175.3MW in 2010, representing a yearlong sales volume of 165.5MW; the company?s highest shipments in its history.
