CPV installations in the USA set to grow at a CAGR of 75% in the next five years

According to the Concentrated Photovoltaics Industry Report, CPV installations in the USA will grow from 1.5 MW to 75MW in the next five years. If installation patterns in the PV industry are anything to go by, this will represent just 8% of total CPV installations by 2015. Read more

Woodlawn Associates interviewed nearly 20 U.S. and European solar developers, integrators, and financiers to gauge their impressions of PV module vendors and learn how they could improve. The maker's nationality has little relationship to module consideration. PV modules are viewed as commodity-like, with cost as the top consideration, though financing, stability, and integration/flexibility are ways to differentiate. Utility-scale developers are also concerned that some module vendors also develop projects. Read more

MVSystems earns new orders for thin-film cluster tools; granted extension by DOE for R&D work

MVSystems (MVS) recently received a new order for its cluster tool system from Hebei University in Baoding, China. The system is set to be used for the advancement of solar cells using amorphous and nano-crystalline silicon materials. Concurrent to the Hebei University order, MVS also received an order from the University of Toledo, Ohio for an added chamber in order to increase the capability of its cluster tool for rigid and flexible substrates, which MVS installed in 2009. Sempra chooses Suntech and Zachry Holdings for execution of Mesquite Solar?s first 150MW phase

Mesquite Solar 1 is getting closer to its full realization with Sempra Generation recently choosing Suntech Power Holdings and Zachry Holdings as the design and construction team for the Arizona solar project. Mesquite Solar 1 is set to produce 150MW (AC) of solar electricity, which will be sold to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) under a 20-year power purchase agreement once the California Public Utilities Commission gives its final approval.
