Enecsys partners with SMTC to manufacture its micro inverters in Ontario

Enecsys announced that it has established a partnership with SMTC, a global electronics manufacturing service provider, which will see the company manufacture its micro inverters for the Canadian market at SMTC?s Markham facility in the York region of Ontario. Inverter market?s 20% drop linked to Germany?s lethargy, says IMS Research

Global inverter market woes would seem to be directly linked to the German market, according to a report released today by IMS Research. The third quarter of 2011 saw the PV inverter market fall by over 20% year-on-year, greatly affected by the 50% decline in PV revenues (on Q3 2010) seen in the usually stable market of Germany. ADB provides USD 48 million to finance 40 MW PV project in Rajasthan

On December 5th, 2011 the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that it will provide a long-term loan of up to USD 48 million to finance a 40 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project under development by Reliance Power Ltd. (Navi Mumbai, India) in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The ADB expects the Dahanu Solar Power Project to be completed by the second quarter of 2012. Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. (Mumbai, India) will buy the electricity produced by the plant to fulfill renewable energy purchase obligations. Read more

Heliatek achieves new world record for organic solar cells with certified 9.8% cell efficiency

Heliatek GmbH (Dresden, Germany) has once again set a new world record for organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells after Fraunhofer ISE CalLab certified a cell efficiency of 9.8% for a 1.1 cm² tandem cell manufactured with a low temperature deposition process. This new record makes the third time in a row that Heliatek has set a world record for efficiency in the field of organic photovoltaic and demonstrates its continuous technology leadership in organic solar, the company emphasizes in a press release. PV production technology: Roth & Rau reaches 21% efficiency with hetero-junction cells

On December 5th, 2011 Roth & Rau AG (Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany) announced that it has achieved an efficiency rate of 21% with a solar photovoltaic (PV) cell based on a 156 mm silicon wafer using hetero-junction technology. The company states that it achieved this milestone at its R&D facility in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in collaboration with the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne Institute of Microengineering (EPFL/IMT, Neuchâtel, Switzerland). Enel Green Power completes 5MW Barrafranca solar power plant

Enel Green Power advised that its 5MW solar plant in Barrafranca, in the province of Enna, Italy, has been completed, bringing its total installed capacity to nearly 77MW worldwide. First Solar to supply modules for 2.6MW Bryan, Ohio solar array

IKEA increases southern US presence by 75%

Malaysia implements feed-in tariff system including remuneration for solar PV generation

On December 1st, 2011 Malaysia began accepting applications to participate in its newly created feed-in tariff system, which includes feed-in tariffs for solar photovoltaic (PV) generation. The Malaysian Senate approved the program on April 28th, 2011. The program offers payments between USD 0.402/kWh for PV plants smaller than 4 kW and USD 0.278/kWh for plants between 10 MW and 30 MW. Rural Electrification: India's MNRE provides assistance for off-grid renewables, renewable energy sales and service outlets

Is It Time for California to Phase Out Nuclear Power?
