Suntech COO David Hogg to resign in January 2012

Suntech Power Holdings Company Ltd. (Wuxi, China) Chief Operating Officer (COO) David Hogg will resign from the company on January 21st, 2012, according to a form filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Suntech has not issued a more complete statement on David Hogg's resignation at the time of writing this article. In the SEC form, Suntech states that Hogg resigned for personal reasons. Read more

FPL President and CEO Olivera to retire

Florida Power and Light Company (FPL, Juno Beach, Florida, U.S.) President and CEO Armando Olivera has announced that he will retire on May 2nd, 2012, after 40 years with FPL. With Olivera as president and CEO, in recent years FPL has built record-setting solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) plants, as a regional and national leader in utility adoption of solar technologies. Avancis commissions 100 MW CIGS PV factory

On December 16th, 2011, Avancis GmbH & Co. KG (Torgau, Germany) began production at its second copper indium gallium diselenide (CIGS) solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing plant in Torgau, Germany. The new facility can produce 800,000 CIGS PV modules annually, which represents 100 MW of capacity and increases the company's annual production to 120 MW. Read more

Amonix CEO Brian Robertson dies in plane crash

On December 22nd, 2011 Amonix Inc. (Seal Beach California, U.S.) CEO and Board Director Brian Robertson passed away as the result of a plane crash in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Robertson's death has already elicited tributes from solar industry leaders including fellow SunEdison co-founder Jigar Shah. Amonix has not issued a statement discussing its plans to replace Robertson as of the writing of this article. Read more

Solar, renewable energy coalition submits proposals for Ontario FIT changes

On December 14th, 2011, a coalition of renewable energy advocates and a solar trade group filed a joint proposal for changes to Ontario's feed-in tariff program, as part of a two-year review. The Green Energy Act Alliance (GEA) and Shine Ontario together proposed cutting feed-in tariffs for solar photovoltaic (PV) generation 11% to 32%, the setting of annual installation targets, as well as other changes to the program, while maintaining its basic characteristics.
