SolarTech, CalCEF to form group to tackle PV investment issues

On November 15th, 2011 the California Clean Energy Fund (CalCEF, San Francisco, California, U.S.) and SolarTech (San Jose, California, U.S.) announced that they will initiate a working group to increase investor confidence, decrease project risk and improve the flow of capital for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The organizations are working to accelerate securitization of solar as an asset class, which they say will bring a very large pool of new capital to support the industry's growth. Read more

Bloomberg New Energy Finance: Global renewable energy investments to total USD 7 trillion by 2030; solar power to reach 1,137 GW by 2030

On November 16th, 2011, Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF, New York, New York, U.S.) released a report which predicts that the annual value of new renewable energy capacity will reach USD 460 billion in 2030, representing a total investment of USD 7 trillion over the next 20 years. The company states that this will result in 15.7% of total energy production coming from renewable energy sources in 2030, a 3.1% increase over 2010, and that solar power will have the second-fastest percentage growth among technologies, to reach 1,137 GW by 2030. Pike Research report: Growth of distributed energy resources to drive investment in virtual power plant systems

In November 2011 Pike Research (Boulder, Colorado, US) has released a "Virtual Power Plants" report that provides an in-depth assessment of the market opportunity for virtual power plants (VPPs). According to the report, VPP capacity will increase by 65% between 2011 and 2017, rising from 55.6 GW to 91.7 GW worldwide during that period. A more aggressive growth forecast scenario contemplates that, under certain conditions, the capacity growth could be as high as 126% during the same forecast horizon. Read more
