PV plants in Massachusetts: New Bedford launches program to install 10 MW

On October 21st, 2011, the City of New Bedford in the U.S. state of Massachusetts, launched a program to install 10 MW of rooftop and ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) plants at multiple sites in the City by 2013. BlueWave Capital LLC (Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.) and Consolidated Edison Solutions Inc. (Valhalla, New York, U.S.) will develop the PV plants. Alteris Renewables Inc. (Wilton, Connecticut, U.S.) will design and construct a 4 MW ground-mounted PV system as the initial plant in the program. Read more

Albasolar GmbH (Berlin) a company dedicated exclusively to the distribution of solar photovoltaic (PV) material in collaboration with REC Solar Spain provides modules for the largest solar project in Austria, which will also be the highest in Europe. The power plant has an output of 2 megawatts (MW) and will be located in the Niedere Tauern massif in the state of Steiermark, very near to the wind power plant built on the same peak. Read more

On October 24th, 2011, United Solar Ovonics (UniSolar, Auburn Hills, Michigan, U.S.) announced that its partner Marcegaglia SpA (Gazoldo Degli Ippoliti, Italy) has opened a new solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing facility in Taranto, Italy. The new PV factory combines UniSolar amorphous silicon thin-film PV laminates with Marcegaglia metal products to produce insulated building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV), metal roofing panels. On October 21st, 2011, a law firm in Pennsylvania announced that it has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of investors who purchased shares in JinkoSolar Holding Company Ltd. (Shanghai, China). The suit by the Law Offices of Howard G. Smith (Bensalem, Pennsylvania) is based on the loss of share values after a fluoride leak from JinkoSolar's manufacturing facility in Haining, China, which led to an angry protest and temporary shutdown of the facility. Chinese PV producer Trina Solar responds to trade petition filed in the United States, rejects allegations

On October 19th, 2011, a trade petition was filed in Washington, DC alleging the unfair importation of crystalline silicon PV cells and modules from China. Trina Solar (Changzhou), among other Chinese suppliers, was identified as an exporter of these products to the United States market. Trina Solar believes the allegations made by the U.S. petitioners will eventually prove to be unfounded and that Trina Solar's transactions with its United States customers were made in accordance with international trade practices, the company reports in a press release. Gehrlicher Solar plans 200 - 400 MW of PV projects in Murcia, Spain

SOLON sells PV plants with a combined capacity of 4.6 MW in Italy

The solar technology company SOLON (Berlin, Germany) has sold a solar power plant with a capacity of 1.5 megawatts (MW) in the northern Italian province of Udine to EAM Solar AS. The Norwegian investment company has also committed to buy a power plant with a capacity of 3.1 MW located just 10 km away, SOLON reports in a press release. The two power plants are expected to generate a combined annual capacity of approx. 7,070 megawatt hours of solar electricity, which is enough to power more than 1,885 homes and save approx. 5,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions every year.
