PV CYCLE collects the first 1,000 tonnes of end-of-life PV modules for recycling in Europe

In early October 2011, PV CYCLE (Brussels, Belgium) reached its first 1,020 tonnes of end-of-life solar photovoltaic (PV) modules collected for recycling since the only Europe-wide programme of its kind became operational in June 2010. In addition to the more than one thousand tonnes that entered the Collective Scheme, the current Individual System, which is also under the umbrella of PV CYCLE, has collected and processed 1,900 tonnes in the same period. PV CYCLE?s System is now well-prepared for larger volumes as the industry expands to meet the demand for renewable energy. Read more

Emerson supplies PV inverters for 10 MW power plants on Sardinia, Italy

On October 19th, 2011, Emerson (St. Louis Missouri) announced that it received a contract to supply PV inverters to one of Europe's leading solar energy developers. Under an agreement with Euro Projects, Emerson will provide utility-scale power inverters for two adjacent solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in the municipality of Villaperuccio in Sardinia, Italy. Enel Green Power commissions first PV plant in Greece; 4.9 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic system to generate 7 million kWh per year

Enel Green Power?s (Rome, Italy) first photovoltaic plant, located in the region of Ilia (Prefecture of Peloponnese, Western Greece), has just become operational, bringing the Group?s total installed capacity in the country to 191 MW, Enel reports in a press release. The ground-mounted solar photovoltaic power plant has an aggregate capacity of 4.9 MW and is expected to generate approximately 7 million kWh annually, enough to meet the power consumption needs of nearly 1,700 households. SunPower Corporation unveils concentrating photovoltaic system

On October 18th, 2011, SunPower Corporation (San Jose, California, U.S.) unveiled a new concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) system including single-axis tracking at the Solar Power International trade show in Dallas, Texas, United States. The company's C7 Tracker concentrates sunlight to seven times its intensity, and utilizes SunPower Maxeon PV cells, which the company states can reach efficiencies of 22.8%. Read more

Chinese GCL-Poly to build 84 MW of PV in California

On October 19th, 2011, GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Ltd. (Hong Kong, China) announced that it will invest in and build two solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in California totaling 84 MW in Tulare County in California's Central Valley. The projects will be developed by Solar Projects Solutions LLC (La Mirada, California, U.S.). GCL expects to begin construction on the projects in 2011, and reach commercial operations in 2012. Würth Solar Greek solar PV plant Farsala reaches full capacity of 5 MW

Ten months after it was commissioned, the solar power plant built by Würth Solar in Farsala, Greece, achieved its full load capacity of 5 megawatts. As the general contractor, the full-spectrum provider of photovoltaic systems located in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany, commissioned the solar power plant on December 27th, 2010. Since January 4th, 2011, this open space system, built as a turn-key facility, has been supplying electricity to the Greek grid. The solar power plant in Farsala is one of the largest open space systems in Greece, extending over an area of 99,960 square meters. Read more
