Emerson secures inverter supply contract for 10MW PV project

Euro Projects has chosen Emerson as inverter supplier for its two recently-completed installations in Sardinia, Italy. The combined capacity of the two systems, located adjacent to one another in the municipality of Villaperuccio, is 10MW and Emerson will equip both sites with its utility-scale power inverters and management systems. On October 19th, 2011, NextEra Energy Resources LLC (Juno Beach, Florida, U.S.) announced the commissioning of a 5 MW concentrating solar photovoltaic (CPV) plant in Hatch, New Mexico, United States. The Hatch Solar Center is the largest CPV plant in North America. The plant utilizes 84 Amonix Inc. CPV systems, which include dual-axis tracking. Read more

SPI 2011: Tigo Energy partners with trio of PV module manufacturers for its smart module technology

Tigo Energy revealed that Trina solar, Hanwha Solar and Upsolar are now offering the company?s smart panel technology, which features the Tigo Energy Maximizer for solar PV installations. The Maximizer is said to allow PV project owners to increase the systems power production by reducing the effects of shade, dust, clouds and uneven temperature on system performance. Read more

Enel Green Power commissions 4.9MW solar PV system in Greece

Installed capacity in Italy is expected to reach 12.5GW by the end of the year, according to the chairman of the Italian Photovoltaic Industry Association (GIFI), Valerio Natalizia. However, at the same news conference, Natalizia also revealed that the industry?s growth rate will slow down considerably next year, with new installations expected to total between 2.5 and 3GW. Würth Solar: Greek solar power plant Farsala reaches full capacity

Contractor Würth Solar commissioned the Farsala solar power plant on December 2010. Since January 4, 2011, this open space system, built as a turn-key facility, has been supplying electricity to the Greek grid. It has now achieved its full load capacity of 5MW. The electricity output of the Farsala plant covers the annual energy requirements of more than 1,600 Greek households. Whilst, at the same time, about 3,700 tons of CO2 emissions are saved per year. Solectria Renewables expands into India and China with additional 500 MW manufacturing plants for solar inverters

U.S. PV inverter manufacturer, Solectria Renewables LLC (Lawrence, MA) on October 19th, 2011 announced that it will expand its manufacturing operations into India and China as both countries announce significant growth opportunities for commercial and utility scale photovoltaic (PV) projects. Solectria Renewables will be opening a 300 MW manufacturing plant in China and a 200 MW manufacturing plant in India, the company reports in a press release. Read more

Gilbane and SunPower Corp partnership to bring solar power to West Valley College, US

Coalition of PV manufacturers led by SolarWorld files trade complaints with U.S. government against China

On October 19th, SolarWorld Industries America Inc. (Hillsboro, Oregon, U.S.) and a coalition of six other solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturers filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission against what they describe as unfair trade practices from China. In a strongly worded press release, the Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing called for the organizations to put an end to "illegal dumping" of Chinese-manufactured PV products, which it says is leading to "decimation" of U.S. solar manufacturing jobs. Moser Baer, GE near completion on 20 MW greenhouse solar project in Sardinia

On October 18th, 2011, Moser Baer Clean Energy Ltd. (MBCEL, New Delhi, India) and GE (Schenectady, New York, U.S.) announced that a joint project on the island of Sardinia which uses the sun's energy to grow crops in a greenhouse while generating electricity via a 20 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant is nearing completion. The companies made the announcement at the Solar Power International trade show in Dallas, Texas, United States, noting that GE Energy Financial Services Inc. (Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.) has invested USD 58 million in the project. Read more

SANYO, BrightGrid offer residential solar leasing program

On October 18th, 2011, SANYO North America Corporation (Cupertino, California, U.S.) announced that it has partnered with BrightGrid Solar (New York, New York, U.S.) to offer a new lease program for residential solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The companies will offer three leasing options, including no money down leases, prepaid leases, and variable upfront payment leases. SPI 2011: SolarWorld spearheading coalition to petition US government from ?unfair trade? by China

Oregon-based SolarWorld announced that along with seven other US manufacturers, it had petitioned the US federal government to stop what it calls, ?an ever-increasing tide of heavily subsidized solar cells and panels that China?s state-supported solar industry is illegally dumping into the American market.? Spearheaded under the name, The Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing, the group filed complaints with both the US Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission. Read more
