Canadian Solar modules chosen for record-breaking Italian project

Canadian Solar has revealed that it was one of the principal module suppliers for SunEdison?s recently-completed 70MW plant in Rovigo, Italy. Rovigo will power 16,500 homes in northeast Italy and has been labelled by SunEdison as the largest single-operating PV solar power plant in Europe. Read more

Conergy to build five new Italian projects

The Italian arm of the integrated PV firm Conergy will build five new solar projects, with a total capacity of 4.1MW, in 2011. The three field systems in Nanto and two industrial rooftop projects in Veneto and Apulia will be fully equipped with Conergy?s in-house system technology. Read more


Southwest Solar Technologies completes first stage of Phoenix solar park

Sulfurcell modules used on Berlin business park array

Photon Consulting expects solar industry downturn in 2012

REC sells Swedish module plant to Perfekta Solar

New GTM Research report examines concentrating solar power technology, costs, and markets

GTM Research has published a new report that specifically looks at the concentrating solar power (CSP) market and presents the strengths and weaknesses it has found for four major technologies: parabolic trough, power tower, dish and linear Fresnel reflector. The report, entitled, ?Concentrating Solar Power 2011: Technology, Costs and Markets? remarks that between 2011 and 2013 the CSP market is expected to see growth between US$3 and US$10 billion. However, after 2013, GTM Research predicts that the CSP market may fall upon tougher times. Read more

Sharp To Supply Solar Panels for Cincinnati Parks Solar Power Project

The Cincinnati Parks department is currently installing a series of solar power arrays that will make the department the owner of the largest number of solar arrays in the state of Ohio. The project, installed in twelve different parks and on structures around Cincinnati, consists of 586 235 watt Sharp solar modules. When completed, the solar power project will provide the district with 170 kilowatts of clean, renewable energy. The project was funded in part through a state grant with funds provided by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Read more

Polarity wins contract with Lockheed Martin to supply solar inverters for USAF power systems

Lockheed Martin presented Polarity with an award to supply its solar-inverter technology for deployable airfield power systems commissioned by the U.S. Air Force. The new system, known as the Integrated Smart BEAR Power System (ISBPS) is projected to diminish fuel consumption by 25% and help sustain modular bases that house thousands of troops.  Neither company supplied the terms of the contract. PVT Solar signs U.S. deal with home-builder Meritage to provide hybrid solar power systems

PVT Solar, manufacturer of the Echo solar system, has signed a National Agreement with Meritage Homes, which will see Meritage solely use the Echo solar system at its solar-powered communities in the U.S.  The Echo solar system has already been used at solar-powered communities in the U.S. with homebuilders such as Meritage, Joseph Carl Homes and Shea Homes providing homebuyers the option of the Echo solar system. The agreement is said to be the first of its kind in the home building industry. Read more

The Solar Living Institute to Offer Online NABCEP Training to SolarCity Installers

Order Focus: Siemens Energy signs supply deal with BrightSource Energy for the Ivanpah CSP project

Siemens Energy has been commissioned by BrightSource Energy to deliver its SPPA-T3000 instrumentation & controls (I&C) system along with two steam-turbine-generators for the Ivanpah solar thermal power plant in California?s Mojave Desert. This is the first use of the I&C system in a solar tower power plant of Ivanpah?s size; the total installed capacity will be around 400MW. Read more
