Order Focus: Vacon receives central inverter orders for PV power plants

A recent new entrant in the solar inverter market, Finland-based Vacon has recently received orders for installations of over 100MW as well as several megawatts in Italy and Belgium. Vacon recently introduced its ‘8000 SOLAR’ inverter series for utility-scale PV plants after acquiring small Spanish company that specializes in the design of solar energy inverters. Higher sales across its product range and continued ramp of its new manufacturing facility in Singapore helped REC reach third quarter revenue of NOK 3,783 million (US$642 million), up 37% compared to the previous quarter. Demand and pricing into the fourth quarter was expected to remain stable. Prices however, were expected to decline in 2011 but not by as much as the regression in the feed-in tariff in Germany of 13%. REC posted EBITDA of NOK 827 million in the third quarter, compared with NOK 449 million in the third quarter last year and NOK 455 million in the second quarter. A 1.02MWp commercial solar system using Solyndra’s CIGS panels has been completed by alwitra on a warehouse of Parts Europe, based in Konz, Germany. The system, according to Solyndra, is the largest in Germany that has yet used its technology and the second largest worldwide. The project covers 13,000 square metres of rooftop with Evalon waterproofing membrane and approximately 10,700 square metres of rooftop with more than 5400 Solyndra panels. The New South Wales (NSW), Australia state government has revealed that it will dramatically cut the incentive for installing solar power, admitting that the scheme could end up costing the state over AUD$4 billion, which is double the original estimate.
