?13.5 billion power bonds program frozen as debt volatility increases

Spain has made a decision to freeze the beginning of the country's €13.5 billion program to sell state-guaranteed power bonds until government debt-market volatility abates. Bank workers, who had begun calculating investor interest in the first tranche of bonds, will now have to wait until the yield stabilises on the country's debt. A renewed and concerted effort is underway to push the cell efficiency boundaries of dye solar cell (DSC) materials and process technology, via a joint collaboration agreement between Dyesol and the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) of Japan. Project Focus: First UK hybrid solar park clears planning permission

An existing wind farm in Lincolnshire, owned and operated by Ecotricity has received planning permission by East Lindsey Council to build a 1MW PV power plant on the same site. Groundbreaking on the 4.7 acre (1.9 hectare) site is expected in the next few weeks with grid connection planned in March, 2010. Although other plants have received or are close to receive planning approval, the Ecotricity project could be one of the first utility-scale projects to be commissioned in the UK. Suntech has supplied 384kW of its Pluto solar modules for a rooftop solar array on The Wharf, which is home to the Sydney Theatre Company (STC). The project was completed using a AUT$2 million donation from 'Shi's Family Foundation,' representing Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech's founder, chairman, and CEO and his wife Vivienne Shi. Based on new shipment data from market research firm IMS Research, solar inverter shipments in 2010 have already topped 15.4GW. This year has seen record shipment levels each quarter, reaching a massive 7.3GW in the third quarter, an increase of 50% from the previous quarter when shipments reached 5GW.
