?13.5 billion power bonds program frozen as debt volatility increases

Spain has made a decision to freeze the beginning of the country's €13.5 billion program to sell state-guaranteed power bonds until government debt-market volatility abates. Bank workers, who had begun calculating investor interest in the first tranche of bonds, will now have to wait until the yield stabilises on the country's debt. Read more

Dyesol raises bar on DSC R&D: teams with renowned expert at Japan?s NIMS

A renewed and concerted effort is underway to push the cell efficiency boundaries of dye solar cell (DSC) materials and process technology, via a joint collaboration agreement between Dyesol and the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) of Japan. Leading the R&D will be renowned DSC researcher, Dr Liyuan Han of NIMS and Dyesol's Dr Gavin Tulloch. Read more


Project Focus: First UK hybrid solar park clears planning permission

An existing wind farm in Lincolnshire, owned and operated by Ecotricity has received planning permission by East Lindsey Council to build a 1MW PV power plant on the same site. Groundbreaking on the 4.7 acre (1.9 hectare) site is expected in the next few weeks with grid connection planned in March, 2010. Although other plants have received or are close to receive planning approval, the Ecotricity project could be one of the first utility-scale projects to be commissioned in the UK. Read more

Sovello moves downstream with completion of first commercial rooftop installation in Italy

A recently established arm of String Ribbon technology user, Sovello has completed its first commercial scale project in collaboration with project developer and partner, German Solar System. Sovello subsidiary, Sovello Projects 741 kWp rooftop installation in the Italian region of Campania was for a textile factory owned by the Muccillo Group in the industrial park of Benevento. North Wales University solar development to generate 50 UK jobs

A £4.4 million solar energy project being undertaken at the Glyndwr University in North Wales is expected to create up to 50 research jobs in the region. Project Focus: Suntech supplies Pluto solar array to the Sydney Theatre Company

Suntech has supplied 384kW of its Pluto solar modules for a rooftop solar array on The Wharf, which is home to the Sydney Theatre Company (STC). The project was completed using a AUT$2 million donation from 'Shi's Family Foundation,' representing Dr. Zhengrong Shi, Suntech's founder, chairman, and CEO and his wife Vivienne Shi.  Integrated by DCM Solar, the 1,906 solar panels comprise one of the largest capacity rooftop solar arrays in Sydney and Australia. New record for solar inverter shipments says IMS Research

Based on new shipment data from market research firm IMS Research, solar inverter shipments in 2010 have already topped 15.4GW. This year has seen record shipment levels each quarter, reaching a massive 7.3GW in the third quarter, an increase of 50% from the previous quarter when shipments reached 5GW. However, a softening of demand in the German market could see shipments levels fall in the fourth quarter. Read more

Disused Airfield Enters UK's Solar Race

Indian Joint Venture Targets 500 MW in Renewables

ADB will invest $40 million to take a 25% stake in the company, along with India's NTPC Ltd (50%) and Japan's Kyushu Electric Power Company (25%). The bank aims to invest $2 billion a year in renewable-energy and energy-efficiency projects in Asia and the Pacific. Read more
