BlueChip Energy prepares for 75MW expansion of solar modules in 2011

BlueChip Energy revealed that installation and trial runs have been completed for its first production line of PV solar modules, allowing the company to expand its annual module production capacity to 75MW for 2011. The panels will be manufactured under the ASP brand, which already has designated 20MW of production to orders received for delivery at the beginning of next year. Read more

The optimism within the PV industry that 2010 would be the best on record goes unabated, however projecting demand in 2011 is proving more problematic. That hasn’t stopped market research firm, Solarbuzz from sticking its neck-out and projecting that the first quarter of 2011 could be the most challenging for the industry next year as it expects market demand to be less than 50% of PV module production. Project Focus: Centrosolar connects Istanbul?s largest thin-film solar system to grid

Centrosolar connected its newest solar system installation in Turkey to the grid. Alleged to be the largest thin-film solar power system to date in Istanbul, Turkey, the installation sits on the roof of confection manufacturer, Perfetti Van Melle. The total energy output at peak is 31kW with 38MWh of electricity production expected per year. Read more

Project Focus: BP Solar to develop 10MW utility solar plant in Western Australia

In a harmonic move with the new Federal Governments Solar Flagships Program, BP Solar, along with Verve Energy, will be constructing a 10MW utility scale solar PV plant in Geraldton, Western Australia. The companies claim that this is the largest ever grid-connected solar power plant in the country. Valued at over US$47.37 million dollars, BP Solar will provide the engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of the plant. Work is scheduled to start early in 2011. Read more

Proposed 180MW PV plant gets Victorian Government funds using First Solar thin-film modules

Australia could finally become a highly attractive location for major solar projects on the back of the Victorian Government committing AUD$100 million to an 180MW PV plant planned for an area south of Mildura using CdTe thin-film modules from First Solar. Further funding is required however, before the project can get underway, which may be constructed by energy company TRUenergy. Read more
