Direct Grid Technologies revealed that its DGM-S460 series grid tie micro-inverter was given UL1741 certification. The company will be distributing the inverter in the U.S. through its OEM partner, Synergy Energy in New Jersey and is working on further partner agreements, which are to be announced throughout the rest of this year. New U.S. federal projects have been awarded to REC Solar totalling 9.1MW. To date, REC Solar has been awarded over 20MW of such projects in the U.S. The new projects include five from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and one from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service, as well as two utility projects. Solar power, once seemingly confined to the desert Southwest, is making inroads from Florida to New Jersey, Colorado to Nevada. Ron Kenedi, vice president of Sharp Solar Energy Solutions Group, said "the whole country is waking up to the idea of solar." Take Florida Power & Light's (FP&L's) 25 MW DeSoto Next Generation Solar Energy Center in Arcadia, Fla. The plant is now one of the largest PV installations in North America, having overtaken NV Energy's 17 MW facility at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. The DeSoto Center uses more than 90,500 crystalline-silicon PV panels mounted on tracking systems and is capable of generating about 42,000 MWh annually.
