Taking on the task of spreading the word of the UK’s potential in the solar market, Solar Power UK organised the hugely successful conference on October 18th and 19th 2010. The conference, the theme of which was “Enabling the UK Solar Market for 2011”, drew over 450 delegates from all facets of the solar PV industry, including installers, suppliers and manufacturers, investment companies and members of the media. IMS Research predicts utility-scale PV market will surge dramatically in 2011

According to the latest report from IMS Research, the utility-scale PV market is set to surge in 2011, growing as much as five-times faster than the rest of the industry. This high demand predicted for next year supports First Solar's recent decision to make significant increases to its production capacity expansion plans for the next two years, suggesting that the dominating thin-film supplier's production capacity will reach over 2.7GW by the end of 2012 at current line run rates. However, given its history of improving throughput, IMS Research estimates that its capacity could in fact reach over 3GW by then. Read more

Order Focus: JinkoSolar to deliver a further 100MW of modules to Enfinity Asia Pacific

Adding to over 200MW of orders already announced this month; JinkoSolar has signed a follow-up supply agreement with Enfinity Asia Pacific for the supply of 100MW of photovoltaic modules throughout 2011. UK government decides against solar feed-in tariff cuts

The UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne announced the coalition government's Comprehensive Spending review, revealing that there will be no immediate cuts to the country's solar feed-in tariff. After much speculation that the coalition government would slash the feed-in tariff set by the country's Department of Energy and Climate Change it was finally announced by the Chancellor that the tariffs would be left alone until at least 2013. Suntech, Calisolar to construct new solar silicon manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada

Suntech and Calisolar have signed a Letter of Intent to construct a solar silicon manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada in order to significantly expand the existing manufacturing operations in Vaughan. The facility will add new operators and engineers, doubling total employment at Calisolar's wholly owned subsidiary, 6N Silicon to more than 350. Read more

Terna signs ?620 million deal to sell solar plant unit to Terra Firma Investments

Terna has completed an agreement to transfer  100% of the shares of Rete Rinnovabile (RTR) with Terra Firma Investments. The deal is estimated to be worth between €620 and €670 million and will be on a modular basis since the PV plants will be profiting from the Conto Energia feed-in tariff at the closing date, which is expected to occur on March 31, 2011. The closing is pursuant to  condition precedents, including the approval of RTRs 2010 statutory financial statements. Read more

Order Focus: Oerlikon Solar receives 40MW order for micromorph-Si production

In August, Oerlikon Solar and Hunan Gongchuang Photovoltaic Science & Technology signed a contract as part of the 60 year celebration for commercial ties between China and Switzerland. Today, as part of that contract, Gongchuang has ordered a 40MW micromorph turnkey production line, which is also known as the FAB 1200. The production line is expected to start mass production by the end of 2011 with around 330,000 solar modules being manufactured per year. Read more


Vietnam Approves 40 MW Biomass Plant
