SPI 2010: Solyndra launches revised product from experience in field: no tools required

With more than 500 commercial rooftop installations now claimed for its first rendition of its cylindrical CIGS thin film modules, Solyndra has launched its 200 Series, which is larger and therefore more powerful than its predecessor. The company also claims that new features ensure simpler installation, requiring no tools and simply ‘snap’ together, making them the fastest modules in the world to mount. Sanyo Canada is to provide HIT modules for numerous rooftop installations on branches of IKEA Canada, located in the Greater Toronto area. Once the project is complete, IKEA will be the first retailer to exclusively own, install and operate what's expected to be the largest rooftop network in Ontario under the province's feed-in tariff program. Solar power project developer, Enfinity is making moves to grow its commercial and large-scale utility pipeline in North America with the acquisition of solar developer ClearPeak for an undisclosed sum. Enfinity said it would retain all ClearPeak executives and adopt its pipeline (also not disclosed) of renewable energy customers and projects. Jiangsu Linyang Solar Power Electronic Engineering Co, a subsidiary of Solarfun Power has entered into an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Guangdong Guohua New Energy Investment Co to build an 8.1MW solar plant in Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. This project is expected to become operational by the end of the year and is subsidized by the national Golden Sun program. A record level of capital equipment spending across the crystalline and thin-film manufacturing sectors was seen in the third quarter, according to the latest quarterly figures from market research firm Solarbuzz. Manufacturing equipment spending reached at least US$2.9 billion with over 1GW of new manufacturing capacity added in the quarter. The PV industry demand is being fuelled by continued strong growth in key markets in Germany and emerging markets such as the U.S. China as well as a host of new markets gaining momentum after incentive schemes were introduced. Continued strong demand in the PV market has seen LDK Solar raise its revenue and shipment guidance for its third quarter financial results. The China-based integrated PV manufacturer said that it expects to report revenue in the range of US$610 to US$640 million, up from previous guidance of US$570 to US$600 million.
