HyperSolar claims ?breakthrough technology? to increase solar cell power output

HyperSolar’s development team has found that new design models are showing potential magnification of 300%. Using a thin and flat light magnification layer, thousands of small light collectors take the light into a light routing network, which then transmits the light to a smaller output area on the bottom where a solar cell can be attached. HyperSolar states that only one solar cell is needed under a 300% HyperSolar layer. Read more


News solar scheme launched in Wadebridge

Venice appeals court upholds LDK arbitration award

A Venice appeals court has upheld the international arbitration award made in connection with the ongoing dispute between Helios Technology and LDK Solar. The Venice court agreed that the "take or pay" clause outlined in the solar wafer supply contract LDK had with Helios was valid and at the terms and conditions specified in the contract. Helios must therefore pay LDK approximately US$31 million plus interest, costs and lawyers fees. Read more

Project Focus: SunPower, Etrion to build 10MW plant in Italy

Further to the news earlier this week that Etrion has acquired the final tranche of SunPower's 33MW Montalto plant, the two companies have signed an agreement to build two further solar power plants, totaling 10MW, in the Puglia region of Italy. SunPower will design and construct the plants, as well as providing operations and maintenance services for Etrion, which will own the system. Read more

VA Homeowner Saves $24,000 On Solar Power Installation

A federal tax credit saved a Virginia man nearly $24,000 on a solar electric and hot water installation on his Alexandria home. For Steven "Boots" Barnes, the cost of installing a home solar power system in Virginia is not only offset by federal tax credits, but also generates a steady revenue stream with solar renewable energy credits (SREC's). Quantum to begin production of solar rooftops for Fisker Karma electric cars

Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide will be issuing its first production series of solar roofs for its Fisker Karma electric car with the US$9.4 million production release it has received. The release will see Quantum work with Asola of Germany to begin volume production for the solar roofs during the early part of 2011. Quantum claims that this is the largest continuous and most highly curved solar roof for a passenger car. Read more

Ascent Solar closes public offering with US$20.25 million in net proceeds

Ascent Solar Technologies has completed and closed its public offering of 5.25 million shares of common stock. The stock was being offered at US$4.15 per share and with Ascent accumulating around US$20.25 million after offering expenses, underwriting discounts and commissions. The net proceeds will go towards the completion of its FAB2 production plant as well as general corporate funding. Read more

Project Focus: Day4 to provide modules for Italian solar installation

Day4 Energy has agreed to supply Orciano Ambiente, an Italian solar project developer, with Day4’s 60-MCI solarModules for a 1MW ground-mounted solar PV system in Orciano, Pisano, Italy. This will be the first ground-mounted PV system for the town and is expected to reach completion by December with full operations to begin in February 2011. Read more
