Meanwhile, hidden down in the dark dirty underworld, a compelling technology sits quietly and gets no respect. Once installed it largely goes unseen and, it seems, it's equally invisible in the world of clean technology press, venture funding and government R&D funding. In a ruling 21 October 2010, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) effectively cleared the way for multi-tiered feed-in tariffs for various renewable energy technologies, like the programs found in Ontario, Canada and across Europe. As part of its Solar 4 All program and a five school solar pilot program by the Newark Public Schools Facilities Management Office, Mercury Solar Systems has finished its 1.2MW installation on two public schools in Newark, New Jersey. Barringer High School saw 2,310 panels installed on its rooftop for a total of 646kW while a rooftop and carport solar system at Park Elementary used 1,704 panels, which will produce 519kW. LDK Solar has secured a two-year polysilicon deal with BYD, a China-based enterprise specializing in IT, automobiles and green energy. Private equity firm, Terra Firma Capital Partners has acquired the PV solar power plants and project pipeline from Italy’s leading energy transmission grid operator, Terna for between €620 and €670 million. Terna had already built parks of approximately 150MW, all close to substations operated by Terna, across Italy. Rete Rinnovabile S.r.l.
