Conergy nearly doubles sales but further restructuring needed

The sale of the largest solar plant in Germany pushed quarterly sales at Conergy to €275.3 million for the third quarter, up from €138.8 million in the previous quarter. Conergy also saw gross profit double from €32.7 million to €64.1 million. Government officials and executives from CPS Energy, Duke Energy and juwi solar stood together as the Blue Wing Solar Project was dedicated in San Antonio, Texas. The 14MW solar installation, constructed on 113-acres using 214,500 solar PV modules, is claimed as being the largest solar project to date in Texas. The Blue Wing Solar Project began full operation almost two months ahead of schedule and will generate over 26,570MWh of electricity per year. The Kern County Board of Supervisors gave their undisputed approval to Sempra Generation for the construction of a 200MW solar power project in Antelope Valley, California. Located about 90 miles north of Los Angeles, and set to be constructed on privately owned former agricultural land, the designated Rosamond Solar project will break ground sometime in 2012. The project has an anticipated completion date for 2013 and marks the fourth utility-scale power project for Sempra Generation. The company started operation of the Radicondoli 2 geothermal power plant, an additional unit to an existing 40 MW plant. The Tuscany-based facility now is now up to 60 MW of capacity.
